Hi David
About http://mr-31238.mr.valuehost.co.uk/assets/Flash/psychic.swf
It’s pretty simple. They force you to use a two digit number in a limited and mathematically predictable way. There are only a small number of possible solutions, all of which will themselves only be one or two digits long. All of these answers can mathematically only be a multiple of 9, but will never be less than 9 or more than 81 because of the “two digit” rule. Confused? Well look at the simple sums below.
99 = 99 - (9 + 9) = 81 (highest possible result)
98 = 98 - (9 + 8) = 81 - hey also 81
97 = 97 - (9 + 7) = 81 - aha - a trend
... bla bla
90 = 90 - (9 + 0) = 81
89 = 89 - (8 + 9) = 72
88 = 88 - (8 + 8) = 72
and so on and so on until finally
11 = 11 - (1 + 1) = 9
10 = 10 - (1 + 0) = 9
So all they do is ensure that when they change/shuffle the symbols, that all of the multiples of 9, between 9 and 81, have the same graphic, and this is the graphic that will appear in the crystal ball.
The best kind of magic - mathematics! Enjoy!
Grant

: I squirm in my chair in anticipation of TorCon, even though only another 42 days remain before the start of festivities, as the home page shows. What can I do to keep my mind occupied for these next 42 days...?

: Anyone here know how this works?
